Introduction
This is the playground renovation project for Fern Hill School in the UK, designed to create a vibrant, safe, and long-lasting play environment for primary school students. The project required a multi-color rainbow-themed EPDM flooring system that meets strict UK safety standards for impact absorption, slip resistance, and durability under daily heavy use.
Our ApproacH
We developed a tailored solution using our Safixland Core Series (20% rubber content, ideal for primary school playgrounds):
Custom Rainbow Color Matching: We precisely formulated five bright colors (red, blue, green, yellow, orange) to create the rainbow design, ensuring consistent color batches and smooth transitions between shades to meet the school’s visual requirements.
UK Safety Standard Compliance: We supplied 1-3.5mm EPDM granules (20% rubber content, ROHS/REACH compliant) paired with our aliphatic PU binder. This combination meets British safety standards, delivering excellent shock absorption, slip resistance, and anti-yellowing performance for young children’s play areas.
Installation & Technical Support: We provided detailed installation guidelines for multi-color gradient work, including mixing ratios, curing conditions, and on-site tips to prevent color bleeding, ensuring clean, seamless transitions for the rainbow pattern.
Durability for UK Climate: The Core Series system is engineered to withstand the UK’s variable weather, resisting fading, cracking, and wear from rain, frost, and heavy foot traffic, ensuring long-term performance with minimal maintenance.
WHAT WE DID
• Delivered the custom-colored Safixland Core Series EPDM granules on schedule, supporting the school’s playground renovation timeline.
• The finished flooring achieved a smooth, seamless rainbow gradient surface, perfectly bringing the school’s cheerful design vision to life.
• The EPDM surface meets all UK safety standards, providing excellent shock absorption and slip resistance for students using climbing frames, slides, and other play equipment.
• The school was highly satisfied with the durability, color retention, and performance of our Core Series materials, noting the playground has become a bright and popular space for students.
